AOU 2009 in Philadelphia, PA: Special Symposium "Golden-winged Warbler Conservation Initiative"

A symposium was held on Golden-winged Warbler research at the AOU meeting in Philadelphia on August 14, 2009 in the Irvine Amado from 9am to 12:30pm. In addition, a working group meeting was held that same evening from 6-8pm: Ben Franklin Room in Houston Hall.

The basic agenda included:
1) update on NFWF year 2 work and discussion of years 3 and 4.
2) Discussion of NFWF keystone initiative with American Woodcock

2008 Cerulean Warbler and Golden-winged Warbler Summits

The Cerulean Warbler Technical Group, Golden-winged Warbler Working Group and Fundación ProAves invited students and professionals to participate in the 3rd Cerulean Warbler Summit and 2nd Golden-winged Warbler Summit held in October 21-23, 2008, in Bogotá, Colombia, aiming to develop a conservation plan for Cerulean Warbler and Golden-winged Warbler.

2005 Golden-winged Warbler Conservation Workshop

Workshop Objectives:
1. Increase awareness of Golden-winged Warbler conservation status throughout its range (see map below).
2. Examine the evidence for possible causes for Golden-winged Warbler declines and explore some of the issues related to reversing those declines.
3. Identify gaps in knowledge and develop priorities for coordinated Golden-winged Warbler research.
4. Explore management opportunities for reversing Golden-winged Warbler declines in the context of all-bird conservation.
5. Develop a conservation plan for Golden-winged Warblers that includes research, management strategies, regional coordination, and monitoring.
6. Develop a coordination plan for information sharing and conservation action follow-through.

2004 American Ornithologists' Union Meeting - Special Symposium

The 2004 AOU meeting in Quebec, QC, Canada, held a special symposium, The conservation of Golden-winged and Blue-winged Warblers: evolutionary, ecological, and behavioral dynamics in hybridizing species. This event was organized by Rachel Vallender.
